Built around the calendar of a season

If we do not already know your sport, we will by the end of the first visit.

Sport

Cycling

We treat riders on the Legacy Trail, Venetian Waterway, and Caspersen loops — and the club calendars that fill those paths.

What we treat on the bike

Cyclist’s knee

Anterior knee pain after a bump in mileage or a saddle that is a few millimeters off. We treat the knee and the hip that is dumping load into it.

IT band on long trail days

Lateral knee sting at a predictable mile on the Legacy Trail is a hip-capacity problem. Foam rolling the band without changing load is why it returns on Sunday.

Neck and drop-bar position

Hours in the drops or on aero bars stiffen the neck and upper back. We restore motion so you can hold the position without a headache on the drive home.

Low back and saddle height

A saddle that is too high or a core that quits at mile 40 sends the lumbar spine into the ride. Care includes the bike conversation, not only the adjustment.

Hips after aero and group work

Closed hip angles and sitting in the draft tighten the front of the hip. Rotation and glute capacity decide whether the next interval is clean.

Hands, wrists, and numbness

Pressure on the bars is a position and a tissue problem. We screen the neck and the tunnel so you are not buying a seventh pair of gloves.

Return after a crash

Collarbone, AC joint, and the fear of the first group ride back. We clear what needs imaging and load what can train.

Heat, volume, and Florida miles

Year-round riding here is a gift and a trap. We plan load around humidity, not a northern calendar that does not apply.

Local area clubs and group rides

We are not the club, but Dr. Fava is a member of a few of these clubs! We are the clinic riders use when a niggle becomes a training block. Mention your group on the first visit so the plan matches the ride.

Sport

Tennis

Clay, Har-Tru, and public courts from downtown Venice to IslandWalk. We treat the serve chain — shoulder, elbow, hip — so league night stays on the calendar.

What we treat on court

Tennis elbow

Lateral elbow pain after extra league days is usually a shoulder and grip problem wearing an elbow name. We calm the tendon and change the load that keeps lighting it up.

Serve and rotator cuff

The trophy position and the follow-through ask the cuff to decelerate a whip. Night pain and a weak overhead are the warning, not a reason to skip the next set.

Wrist and grip

Western grips, heavy balls, and clay all load the wrist. We screen the elbow and neck so you are not treating a messenger.

Hip rotation on the open stance

If the lead hip will not turn, the lumbar spine and elbow try to finish the ball. Golfers know this. Tennis players get the same exam.

Low back on the serve

Extension plus rotation is a sport pattern, not a desk injury. Care has to let you toss again this week.

Knee after clay and split steps

Har-Tru is kinder on the joint until volume and a stiff hip make the kneecap the complaint. We treat the chain, not a brace-and-hope plan.

Ankle on a slide or a hard court

A roll in the third set is a season problem if it is still swollen at week three. Same return-to-play criteria we use with high school athletes.

High school and junior load

Venice High and club juniors stack practice, matches, and private lessons. We write notes athletic trainers can use and keep the serve in the plan.

Local tennis clubs and courts

We are not the club pro. We are the clinic players use when the elbow or shoulder starts writing the lineup. Mention where you play on the first visit.

  • Arlington Park courts

Public · 2650 Waldemere St, Sarasota

Free public courts with a newer synthetic surface, about 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. First come, first served — a downtown option when Payne Park is booked.

Swimming

Hurricanes at the Venice Y, Masters at 6 a.m., Sharks at Selby, lap swim at North Port. We treat the stroke chain — shoulder, neck, hip — so yardage stays on the board.

What we treat in the water

Swimmer’s shoulder

Pain on the catch or the recovery is a cuff and scapular problem wearing a stroke name. We restore roll and thoracic motion so the tendon is not the only tissue doing the work.

Neck and breath pattern

A stiff neck forces a one-sided breath and a dropped elbow. IM and distance both light this up. We clear the cervical spine so you can see the wall without guarding.

Low back on fly and breast

Undulation is a sport pattern. When the hips quit, the lumbar spine finishes the wave. Care has to let you race the 200 fly, not only sit up straighter at a desk.

Breaststroke knee

The whip kick loads the medial knee. We treat the hip that is dumping rotation into the joint — not a generic “swimmer stretch.”

Hips and kick timing

A closed hip on freestyle or a late kick on fly shows up as groin and outer-hip pain. Rotation capacity decides whether the next main set is clean.

Dryland overload

Pull-ups, bands, and weight-room volume on top of yardage is how high school shoulders fail in January. We look at both calendars.

Open water and triathlon

Sighting, chop, and a wetsuit change the neck and shoulder. Storm Triathlon and Masters open-water athletes get the same exam as pool swimmers — with the race on the calendar.

High school dual-meet load

Venice High, club doubles, and a weekend meet stack fast. Same-week athlete slots and notes athletic trainers can use.

Local swim clubs and pools

We are not the coach. We are the clinic swimmers use when the shoulder or neck starts rewriting the set. Mention the team and the stroke on the first visit.
