High school athletes

Send the case the training room does not have time to finish.

Parents · Coaches · Athletic trainers

The stubborn one can still make the week.

The athletic trainer is covering a roster, a game, and the next ankle. Send the shoulder, the back, or the rehab that needs more hands than the training room has. We see them the same week and write what they can do tomorrow.

  • Parents

You do not need a referral. Book the visit, or call and say the school and the sport. You leave with a plan, not a vague “rest until it feels better.”

  • Coaches

We do not pull an athlete off the team unless the issue needs it. Practice stays in the plan. You hear what they can do at the next session.

  • Athletic trainers

Send the case that is stuck. Tell us what you have already ruled out. You get a note: cleared for, held from, and the next visit. You stay the person on the sideline.

Book a visitCall 1-941-492-6880How an athletic trainer sends an athlete

A high school season does not wait on a six-week list. Dr. Fava is the sports chiropractor for Venice High School Athletics and works the sidelines with Steve Bennett, ATC. She also has close ties at Riverview and Cardinal Mooney, and she treats a lot of athletes from those schools and from Sarasota High School. North Port High School and Wellen Park High School athletes are welcome the same way.

We treat the injury and the calendar. An ankle that is still swollen at practice, a shoulder that will not throw, and a back that keeps them out of the weight room are not the same problem. The visit is the part the training room is too busy to finish — the hands-on care and the progression.

Same-week athlete slots when we can. The note says what they can do tomorrow, what they cannot, and when they come back. Venice is the closest office to Venice High and Wellen Park. University Park is the closer drive for many Sarasota schools.

Topics

What we clear for return to play

Ankle still swollen at practice

A sprain that is still fat at day ten is a season problem. We clear what can be loaded and write the steps back to cutting, not a week on the couch.

Shoulder that will not throw or serve

Overhead sports fail when the cuff and the shoulder blade stop sharing the work. We treat both and keep the throwing plan the coach can actually use.

Low back out of the weight room

Squat day and a game the same week is how backs flare. We calm the tissue and change the lift, instead of ending the season in the training room.

Knee at the start of the season

Pain under the kneecap after two-a-days is usually a hip that is late. We treat both and keep the easy days so they do not lose the week.

The case that is stuck

If it has been two weeks and the training room cannot get ahead of it, send them. That is the visit this page is for.

A note the AT can use

Cleared for, held from, and the next visit. No “as tolerated.” The athletic trainer should be able to run practice from the note.

Same week, not next month

Call and say it is an in-season athlete. We hold those slots for a reason. Parents can also book online.

We do not bench them for sport

Time off is a treatment, not a default. If the tissue can train, they train. If it cannot, we say so plainly.
